Description
Wet’suwet’en First Nation is seeking a Youth Support Worker. The Youth Support Worker (YSW) is responsible for the advice and support of culturally based programs that interface with Wet’suwet’en First Nation staff, community members, and community care providers.
Duties
- Research, gather materials and present on Wet’suwet’en First Nation culture and traditional laws
- Create a database of existing Wet’suwet’en culture documents to draw from internally
- Identify gaps in existing documents
- Work with Wet’suwet’en Elders and Caregivers to identify uthe nique culture in each community
- Identify and maintain a list of Wet’suwet’en knowledge holders who are available to assist with education, support and healing activities
- Research and establish a network of inter-agency funding sources and partnerships designed to meet the cultural needs of Wet’suwet’en First Nation
- Support Cultural Programs and Cultural Land-Based Camps
- Develop and recommend an honorarium structure for programs
- Assist in the development of a culturally appropriate after-care strategy and tools for clients of Healing camps
- Liaise with Wet’suwet’en First Nation programs and community members to identify individual family and community cultural support needs to achieve mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social well-being
- Assist Wet’suwet’en First Nation program and services to meet its goals of enhancing Wet’suwet’en culture integration with Western model
- Support community wellness teams in communities
- Support the community wellness coordinator
- Assist with surveys in the communities on culture/traditions
- Contribute cultural content to the development of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation website
- Prepares and submits monthly activity/reports
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of Wet’suwet’en language, culture and traditions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to understand and speak the Wet’suwet’en language
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures
- Ability to gather data, to compile information, and prepare reports
- Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range goals
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- Team facilitation skills
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Extensive computer works and typing requiring long hours sitting and using office equipment
- Lifting of office boxes and supplies may be required- research materials
- May be required to participate in Wet’suwet’en language, culture & traditional workshops or events involving prevention
- Initial and on-going employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record check
- Criminal Record Check must be conducted every three years as per CSFS Policy
- Must possess valid Driver’s License and may be required to use personal vehicle
- May have to work flexible hours and weekends
- The incumbent is expected to sign a CSFS/WFN Code of Conduct & Ethics
- Training to be provided by Carrier Sekani Family Services
- Will work with WFN Band Designated Representative
