Description
Wet’suwet’en First Nation is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support the Nation's full-time internal and external communications. The Communications Coordinator will manage Wet’suwet’en First Nation social media, website, news feeds, newsletters, drafting press releases, and assisting the Chief and Council with interview requests. This position will be full-time and will be located in the administration office.
Duties
- Maintain and update the WFN website, including drafting web copy and photos on the site
- Researching, writing, and distributing an electronic newsletter for WFN members both in community and away from home
- Researching and developing news releases for community news and distribution to the media
- Managing media requests for interviews and supporting the Chief and Council when they are received
- Developing key messages for interviews and supporting the Chief and Council for interview preparation
- Managing suppliers and agencies when needed
- Documenting events and sharing news with the Nation
- Developing social media and content to keep the WFN members informed of current activities, notices, and events in advance and when they occur as “live” (if possible) also managing questions and comments posted.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, communications related communications education
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in communications and/or journalism-related work and assets
- Experience in working with Indigenous organizations in the capacity of Communications

- Extensive knowledge of Wet’suwet’en language, culture, and traditions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to use website software programming
- Ability to manage various social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram
- Ability to gather community, administrative and program data and create media for review and distribution
- Ability to use various forms of technical support equipment, cameras, computer, digital phones, sound and projector, video conference equipment
- Must have excellent desktop publishing and writing skills
- Skill in organizing resources and archiving them for future use or reference
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
- Lifting of supplies and equipment may be required
- Initial and on-going employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record check
- Must possess valid Driver’s License, have a clean Driver’s Abstract, and may be required to use a personal vehicle from time to time
- May have to work flexible hours and weekends
- The incumbent is expected to sign a confidentiality agreement and code of conduct.
